YWCA AmeriCorps program is recruiting 7 new members for the 2017-18 program year. Individuals from the area are invited to apply for the one year of quarter time and minimum capacity building and direct service benefiting the YWCA and its nonprofit partner agencies.
AmeriCorps members are key components in providing much-needed services in local schools and the YWCA after-school program. Benefits of service for quarter time member (450 hours) include: a stipend of $316.66 per month/pre-taxes, an education award of $1,538.36, student loan forbearance and extensive professional development and training. Minimum (300 hours) members have the same benefits with $200 per month/pre-taxes and $1,230.69 education award.
A national service initiative, AmeriCorps is similar to the Peace Corps and is for those who want to commit to at least one year of service nationally, rather than internationally. Since its inception in 1994, more than 1 million AmeriCorps members have contributed over 1.4 billion hours in service to their country while leveraging millions of community volunteers.
YWCA Adams County AmeriCorps members meet needs in Adams, Nuckolls, Clay and Webster Counties by serving in the following capacities; healthy futures, education and economic opportunity. In the 2015/2016 grant year, thirteen AmeriCorps members achieved the following outcomes; six individuals achieved their GED, 233 women were assisted in the Career Closet in which 65 women served received employment or entered post-secondary education (ten more women received work compared to 2014/2015 grant year), out of 134 youth who received assistance with their homework 91 witnessed grade point increases (17% more than that of last year). AmeriCorps members assist with afterschool and health education, homework assistance, and job training for women, Adult Education (ESL and GED) classes, and connection of services for those who are homeless, near homeless, and/or youth in our four county court system. The AmeriCorps member’s successes have expanded our outreach to assist with additional needs in our 4-Counties.

The YWCA Zone has a position available as Zone Assistant. The Zone Assistant will be working directly with youth as a mentor and role model and assisting with various programs within the Zone After School Program. The YWCA of Adams County is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
